Season of Discovery brought Classic WoW servers back to peak population numbers. The combination of Rune Engraving, new class abilities, and phased content kept the community engaged longer than any previous Classic iteration. For fishers, SoD is essentially a turbocharged Classic Era economy — all the original fishing mechanics intact, but with a much larger and more active player base creating stronger demand.
Fishing in Each SoD Phase
Phase 1 (Level 1–25)
At Phase 1's level cap of 25, your accessible fishing zones are limited to starting areas and low-level zones. Focus on:
- Oily Blackmouth in Westfall and Darkshore coastal waters — alchemy demand is high early in a new phase launch
- Firefin Snapper in Wetlands and Hillsbrad coastlines — Fire Oil alchemy ingredient
- Deviate Fish in the Wailing Caverns area of The Barrens — unique buff fish with consistent demand from roleplayers and fun-seekers on high-population SoD servers
Phase 2 (Level 1–40)
Phase 2 opens up mid-level zones including Stranglethorn Vale and the Arathi Highlands coast. Stranglethorn fishing becomes viable here — both for the Fishing Extravaganza event and for Stonescale Eel, which becomes accessible in southern STV waters. The Extravaganza event runs every Sunday and provides a significant spike in STV fishing activity.
Phase 3–4 (Level 1–50+)
Higher-level zones open up including Feralas, Azshara, and the Eastern Plaguelands coast. At these phases, Stonescale Eel farming in Azshara becomes the primary gold target — the same formula that makes it valuable in Classic Era applies here, with additional demand from a larger active server population.
SoD Fishing Leveling Path
| Skill | Zone | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1–75 | Starting zone ponds | Fish literally anywhere — any catch gives skill-ups |
| 75–150 | Westfall coast or Loch Modan | Open water, no minimum skill required |
| 150–225 | Stranglethorn Vale coast | Southshore or Booty Bay piers work well |
| 225–300 | Feralas lakes or Azshara bays | Start targeting Stonescale Eel pools |
SoD-Specific Economy Notes
SoD servers have a few economic quirks that affect fishing values:
- Higher alchemist demand — Rune Engraving does not reduce the need for consumables. If anything, SoD's new class specs increase the variety of builds active in raids, maintaining broad alchemy demand across multiple flask types.
- Larger player base per phase — The novelty factor keeps SoD servers populated longer into each phase. More players = more raiders = more consistent fish demand.
- Deviate Fish premium — On SoD's active servers, Deviate Fish from the Wailing Caverns area sell for a notable premium because of the Deviate Delight cooking recipe. Worth targeting early in Phase 1 when the novelty demand is highest.
How to Fish During Level-Cap Phases
SoD's phased level caps mean most of the server is at the same level bracket simultaneously. This has a direct effect on fishing economics: during the first 2-4 weeks of each new phase, demand for all consumables spikes as players rush to gear up and progress. Fish and food items sell fastest and for the highest prices during this window.
Plan your fishing farming sessions around phase launches. Have a stockpile of Oily Blackmouth or Stonescale Eel ready when a new phase drops and you will sell into peak demand at peak prices.
FishBot works on Season of Discovery servers. Run overnight sessions to build up stock before each phase launch and sell into the demand spike.
