Fishing in World of Warcraft: Forever looks familiar at first: the same 300 skill cap, the same Nat Pagle quest, the same Stonescale Eels. Then you notice the Fishing Hut, the Chef's Knife, the trunks in Riverglades, and a Stranglethorn derby with its own currency. Forever takes the original fishing profession and gives it things to do at level 60.
This guide covers what is new, the fastest 1-300 route, the gear worth chasing, and the level gates that catch people out. It is based on the public beta (September 17 to October 21), so expect small changes before the November 4, 2026 launch.
What Is New for Fishing in WoW Forever
Camping: Fish Bowl, Fishing Rack, and Fishing Hut
Camping is a new system that lets you build objects in the world. Three of them are built around fishing:
| Camping Object | Fishing Required | Reagents (beta) | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fish Bowl | 20 | Raw Brilliant Smallfish, Empty Vial | Stat buff (does not stack with Blessing of Kings) |
| Fishing Rack | 140 | 2 Simple Wood, Crystal Vial, 2 Raw Mithril Head Trout | Access to uncommon fish for 1 hour |
| Fishing Hut | 300 (level 60) | 5 Simple Wood, 2 Bolt of Runecloth, seasonal fish steaks | Access to rare fish for 1 hour |
The Chef's Knife and unique fish
At Fishing 275 and level 35 you can use the Chef's Knife, which prepares certain unique fish in a special way. Combined with Message in a Bottle recipes (bought with Speckled Tasty Fish), this makes Fishing and Cooking feel like one profession, which is how most players end up using them anyway.
Riverglades fishing trunks
Riverglades, reached by boat near Tanaris and home to the goblin town of Powderfuse Port, has pools that can drop trunks with equipment. Beta players have reported a level 40 one-handed mace and a bow among the rewards, some with unusual stat combinations. Treat these as a nice bonus while you fish for gold, not a reason to fish on their own.
The Stranglethorn Vale derby
The derby now has a shop and a coin currency, and you need to take part in several weekly derbies to buy everything. Rewards seen in beta include fishing gear, a fishing trinket, a bucket transmog, a pet, water-walking surfer boots, and the Arcanite Fishing Rod.
The derby rewards are the reason to keep fishing after 300. Several weeks of participation are needed to clear the shop, which means consistent fishing time matters more than one lucky day.
Fishing 1-300: The Fastest Route
Fishing can be trained at level 5. The route below keeps you in zones that match your character level, so you can fish while you quest instead of making separate trips.
| Skill | Where to Fish | Main Catches | Gate to Pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-75 | Starting zones and capital cities | Raw Brilliant Smallfish, Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper | Apprentice from any trainer |
| 75-150 | Redridge, Ashenvale, Hillsbrad, Wetlands | Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish, Sagefish | Journeyman at 75 |
| 150-225 | Stranglethorn Vale, Dustwallow Marsh, Desolace, Arathi | Raw Mithril Head Trout, Rockscale Cod, Oily Blackmouth, Firefin Snapper | Expert: level 20, Fishing 125, and the Expert Fishing book |
| 225-300 | Feralas, Tanaris, Hinterlands, Azshara, Felwood, Plaguelands | Stonescale Eel, high-level cooking fish, seasonal catches | Artisan: level 35, Fishing 225, and the Nat Pagle quest |
Best Fishing Gear in WoW Forever
Most of the original gear is still here, plus a few new pieces from the derby.
| Item | Bonus | How to Get It |
|---|---|---|
| Strong Fishing Pole | +5 Fishing | Fishing vendors |
| Big Iron Fishing Pole | +20 Fishing | Shellfish Trap fishing in Desolace |
| Arcanite Fishing Pole / Rod | +35 Fishing | Stranglethorn derby rewards (Fishing 300) |
| Aquadynamic Fish Attractor | +100 Fishing for 5 minutes | Crafted by Engineers |
| Widebrimmed Fishing Hat | +25 Fishing (temporary) | Beta reward, source may change |
The Legacy system also includes a perk called Luremaster that gives a chance at an extra fish while a lure is active. Its exact numbers were still moving in beta, but if it survives to launch it makes lures worth keeping up at all times.
How Many Casts Does 1-300 Take?
Skill-ups come almost every catch early on and slow down sharply past 225, so expect well over a thousand catches in total. At 80 to 100 catches an hour, that is more than 12 hours of casting, and closer to 20 if you fish in zones at the edge of your skill. Spread across a normal leveling pace, that works out to well under an hour per character level.
That is a lot of clicking, which is why many players let FishBot handle the casting and looting while they sort bags, plan routes, or watch a second screen. FishBot reads the screen like a person does, so it does not depend on which WoW client you run: Retail, Classic, Hardcore, Anniversary, and now Forever all look the same to it (a bobber on water).
FishBot uses pixel-based detection with randomized human-like behavior, the safest approach to automated fishing. No code injection, no memory reading.
